This course is designed to enhance the English language skills of pharmacy students, focusing on the specific terminology and communication skills needed in the pharmaceutical field. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and  exercises, students will develop the ability to understand and use English in professional contexts, including patient interactions, pharmaceutical research, and industry communication.

Course Objectives:

- Improve English language proficiency with a focus on pharmaceutical terminology.

- Develop skills for effective communication in pharmacy-related scenarios.

- Enhance reading and comprehension of professional texts .

- Foster the ability to write clear and concise  prescriptions, and patient information.

Tentative List ofTopics (subject to change based on students needs):

  1. Expectations. Reflection and Planning Ahead. 
  2. Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
  3. The Pharmaceutical Industry. Film Screening
  4. Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs.
  5. Drug Interactions and Adverse Effects. 
  6. Pharmacogenomics: How genes affect a person's response to drugs.
  7. Personalized Medicine
  8. Drug Testing.
  9. The language of Experiments. Communication in the Lab
  10. Patient Counseling Techniques. Writing Patient Care Plans
  11. Introduction to Academic Reading and Writing: Research Basics, annotation
  12. Skills for the Future: critical thinking
  13. Professional Communication skills
