Course Title: English I

 

Objectives and content:

The aim of this introductory course is to familiarize students with the English language used in the various fields of Engineering. The course covers topics such as:

• What is Engineering
• Engineering Achievements
• Material types
• Material Properties
• Forces on Materials
• Load Stress and Strain
• Metal fatigue
• Friction
• Fastening methods
• Machining- the wedge form of a cutting tool
• Vector Mechanics
• Engines and Motors

  Particular emphasis is drawn to technical and academic language and terms.

Students are advised to attend classes and encouraged to participate in classroom activities.

At the end of the course, students should be able to comprehend engineering-related texts and determine the meaning of technical and academic vocabulary in context.

Assessment:

The final grade is based on the final exam consisting of  different  types of questions such as: true/false statements, multiple-choice questions, cloze passages, term definitions,  text  comprehension, and vocabulary questions  

Regular attendance and active participation are taken positively into consideration.
