Πώς επανερμηνεύει ο σύγχρονος κινηματογράφος τις αφηγήσεις του ελληνορωμαϊκού κόσμου; Ποιος είναι ο ρόλος της κινηματογραφικής αναδιαμεσολάβησης και της διασκευής σε ζητήματα φύλου, ταυτότητας και ιδεολογίας; Από τη Μήδεια και τη Wonder Woman έως τον Gladiator και την Troy, το μάθημα εξετάζει την πρόσληψη των ελληνορωμαϊκών μύθων και ηρωικών μορφών στον σύγχρονο κινηματογράφο—κυρίως στο Χόλιγουντ, αλλά και σε σημαντικές ευρωπαϊκές ταινίες.Το μάθημα μελετά τόσο κλασικές όσο και μεταμοντέρνες επανερμηνείες, δίνοντας ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στις φεμινιστικές προσεγγίσεις και στους τρόπους με τους οποίους αναδιαμορφώνουν τις αρχαίες αφηγήσεις για το σύγχρονο κοινό, ειδικά σε σχέση με το φύλο και την ηρωικότητα.

How does contemporary cinema reinterpret narratives of the Greco-Roman world? What is the impact of cinematic remediation and adaptation in terms of gender, identity and ideology? From Medea and Wonder Woman to Gladiator and Troy, this course explores the reception of Greco‑Roman myths and heroic figures in modern cinema—primarily in Hollywood, but also in key European films. The course examines both classical and postmodern reinterpretations, with particular attention to feminist approaches and the ways they reshape ancient narratives for contemporary audiences especially in relation to gender and heroism. Through a series of case studies, readings, and critical discussions, students examine how and why cinema adapts, transforms, and reimagines classical material and how contemporary cultural, political, and aesthetic concerns shape these modern retellings.
