Greek Language Introductory Course (group 4)
(LIT2147) - Δημήτρης Παπαζαχαρίου
Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
In general, we aim to introduce incoming Erasmus students to the very rudimentary knowledge of todays' spoken Greek language, as a foreign language, so as to facilitate their adapting to the hosting country. Detecting all the aspects of the teaching and learning process of the linguistically and culturally diverse students we have been calling for reflexive curricula (Cope & Kalantzis, 2009) that intend to promote multimodal linguistics designs for motivating and achieving different sorts of learning (language proficiency, cross cultural exchange, social adaptation).
In particular, the grammar and vocabulary units are all based on thematic units that reflect the social context of Erasmus students at absolute beginner level. In addition, the dialogues module will provide them with the basic skills of reading and understanding spoken and written language relevant to real communication. This unit encourages students to bridge the gap between learning grammar and dealing with text-level structure and meaning.
As part of the learning process, a multicultural classroom will achieve its language goals mainly through interactive bilingual exercises, experiential activities, and task-based learning methods in the context of teaching Greek as a second/foreign language to adults.
